Ms. Katherine "K.E." Edwards
December 22, 1923 ~ December 19, 2016 (age 92) 92 Years OldSister Katherine Edwards answered the master's call and her spirit quietly and peacefully entered unto the presence of God at 2:00AM on December 19, 2016. Katherine was born December 22, 1923 in Ozark, Alabama to the late Arie Covington, and Jesse Edwards of Enterprise, Alabama. She was the eldest of three siblings. She attended school at Ozark Colored School in Ozark, AL and Coppinville High School in Enterprise, AL. At an early age she united with the Saint Paul A.M.E. Church.
Sister Katherine worked many years doing domestic work for the Ard, Wooley, and Turnipseed families of Ozark, AL.
“K.E.,” as many called her, shared her joyous spirit and love for others. She graciously gave all she had to better the lives of so many by opening her heart and home over the years by cooking and feeding many families in the community. She often said “ If we don’t do anything else, we are going to eat. ” In her spare time you could find her tending to her multitude of plants and attending yard sales. Through her yard sales, she gave to those in need.
She was preceded in death by: two brothers, Chester Shipman of Ozark,Alabama and William Shipman, of Lubbock, Texas, one daughter Opal Edwards of Ozark, AL and a close cousin Everee Shipman of Ozark, AL. Three grandchildren, Tiffany, Dana, and Cyril Edwards of Ozark, AL, a special Aunt Edna Mckinnis of Atlanta, Ga., Jay Shipman of Montgomery, AL, and Perry Shipman of Enterprise, AL.
Her beautiful life will be forever be cherished in the lives of her family. Survivors include seven children: John Ray (Virginia) Smith of Alexander, VA, James (Delis) Edwards of Ozark, Alabama; Cecelia ( Ira) Dunlap of Atlanta, GA; Jeanelle, Mary Ann, Shirley, and Irene Edwards ( her angel ) of Ozark, AL. A host of devoted grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Sister-in-law Mavis Shipman of Lubbock, TX. Special friends: Gussie Rodgers and Annie ( Ms. Dudie ) Williams and all of her yard sale family and friends.
